Howard Memorial Gates Anniversary

Popular, local-based artist David Crighton has created this stunning High Park image to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Howard Memorial Gates.  Dedicated to John Howard in recognition of his gift of High Park, the gates on Parkside Drive at High Park Boulevard were officially opened on March 19, 1914.  The distinctive limestone and iron gates in the centre of the image are surrounded by other prominent High Park features, including Colborne Lodge, John Howard’s former residence, the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground and peacocks from the Zoo.

On Sunday March 23, 2014, Colborne Lodge, Councillor Sarah Doucette and highpark.org together with other park and community groups are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the gates.  Support this event by purchasing a print at Colborne Lodge.  $75 + tax for 20″ x 6″ print.  To purchase a print, visit Colborne Lodge during regular open hours Friday to Sunday, 12 – 4 p.m. or by appointment at 416-392-6916 or clodge@toronto.ca.

This project has been supported by the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program, Department of Canadian Heritage.  Ce projet a été appuyé par le Programme Développement des communautés par le biais des arts et du patrimoine du ministère de Patrimoine.
