High Park Zoo

Established in the 1893 for deer, High Park Zoo’s animal paddocks have always been a popular attraction. Today, 120 years later, the Zoo’s nine paddocks are home to a variety of animal species from around the world including bison, llamas, peacocks, reindeer, highland cattle, emus and sheep. The Zoo is open every day from 7:00 am to dusk. The Llama Pen is open weekends and statutory holidays allowing visitors to feed and pet the llamas (and interact with other animals such as chickens and rabbits) from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm from April to October.

Friends of High Park Zoo was formed in 2012 to raise the necessary funds to ensure that the Zoo stayed open after being cut from the 2012 Budget in June. Generous donations and volunteer activities supported the Zoo for eighteen months, when, after collecting 25,000 signatures on a petition and with support from City Staff, funding was voted back to the Zoo by City Council as of January 1st, 2014. Friends of High Park Zoo is a registered not-for-profit corporation created expressly to generate support for High Park Zoo. Donations can be made online here.
