Know Your Nature, Led by: High Park Eagle Youth – Family Nature Walk @ High Park Nature Centre at the Forest School

Learn about the plants and animals in High Park from the young naturalists of the High Park Eagles group! We will explore woodlands and black oak savannah habitats to learn fascinating facts and connect with the nature surrounding us.

Event is great for all ages – bring the whole family! No pre-registration necessary, this is a drop-in event.

Gardening with Native Plants @ Howard Park Tennis Club

Acclaimed author and native plant advocate Lorraine Johnson will show us ways to connect our own gardens with High Park by growing native plants, and best practices and growing

Winter Tree ID – Adult Workshop @ High Park Nature Centre at the Forest School
Mar 26 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

 

Build skills, knowledge and learn how to identify the trees of Ontario while they sleep. This workshop will be led by Nousheen Ahmed and will begin indoors with a discussion of what to look for when identifying trees in winter– bark, twigs, buds and tree shape. You will then go on a guided hike on some of the lesser known nature trails of High Park to practice your new skills by identifying a variety of trees. This course is recommended for the beginner-to-intermediate tree observer. Dress in layers for both indoor and outdoor learning. The hike will be moderate in length and difficulty.

Easter Egg Centrepiece Workshops for Youth and their Adults – April 1 & 2 @ Colborne Lodge

Spring is almost upon us! Get ready for the season with our Easter egg dyeing and centrepiece workshop. Learn traditional egg dying techniques using homemade natural dyes. Then, practice your sewing skills as everyone creates a personalized centrepiece to show off their Easter eggs. Do not fear if your sewing skills aren’t as grand as your peers – a simple stitch is all it takes! Enjoy a customized exploration of the Howards’ home and then gather for a delightful tea, including an assortment of sweet and savoury treats.

One Adult & One Youth (Age 8-13) $50.00 + HST Additional Youth (Age 8-13) $ 17.50 + HST Additional Adult $32.50 + HST

Llama Pen Activities @ High Park Zoo
Apr 1 @ 11:30 am – 2:00 pm

While the Zoo is open every day from 7:00 am to dusk, visitors can get up close to some animals in the Llama Pen on weekends and statutory holidays from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm (beginning in April until the end of October). Visitors can feed and pet the llamas (Honey and her friends) and interact with other animals such as chickens and rabbits.

Lost Waterways Walking Tour @ High Park

This week’s walk -

Lost Waterways led by Leo deSorcy

Sunday morning casual gatherings offering observations on the various elements of the park. Each walk has a different theme and is led by volunteer scientists, historians, and local naturalists who will help you to understand and explore High Park’s many characteristic features.

Walks may go on wooded trails, so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Each session is scheduled for 1 1/2 hours. All ages are welcome; some walks may be more attractive to children. Dogs on leash only, please.

Free Sunday Walking Tours take place every first and third Sunday of the month, including holidays, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon, but participants may come and go as needed.

Meet at the benches, across the road from the south side of Grenadier Restaurant in the middle of High Park.
