Park Watch

Park Watch is a volunteer initiative of the former High Park Citizens’ Advisory Committee and works in partnership with the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation and Toronto Police Services at 11 Division.  The concept of Park Watch was initially conceived by a local citizen of the High Park area. Volunteers were organized and the program was launched in April 1997.

The purpose is to keep High Park a safe and friendly place. Volunteers act as hosts and goodwill ambassadors. They respond to enquiries from Park users, provide information and assistance as needed, identify and report any potential safety problems to the Police and Park staff and promote safe and friendly behaviour among Park users. Their role is not enforcement but education and reporting.

Volunteer requirements:

  • good physical condition – 2 hour walks
  • knowledge of High Park
  • fluent in English
  • minimum of two 2 hour shifts per month on either Saturday or Sunday
  • midweek walks can be arranged
