Programs take place at the High Park Nature Centre, located on the eastern perimeter of the park at 430 Parkside Drive (at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Indian Valley Crescent).

Registration

Registration opens for winter 2009 programs on November 24, 2008.  Pre-registration is required for all programs.  Registration can not be confirmed until payment has been received.

How to Register

For all fall programs, please fill out:

Please pay by cash or cheque. We will confirm in person or via email as soon as your registration is complete.

 

Option #1

Print off and fill out the 2009 Registration Form and drop off your form and payment to the High Park Nature Centre at 430 Parkside Drive (one set of lights south of Keele and Bloor at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Indian Valley Cres.)  Staff are available to help you from 8:30 am until 4pm - please knock first in case we are running a program.

 

Option #2

If the Centre is closed, you can drop your form and payment off any day of the week, at any time in our locked mailbox on the southeast corner of the building (at the top of the interlocking brick pathway).  Mail is picked up daily, including Saturday and Sunday.

 

Option #3

Print off and fill out the registration form and mail your form and payment to the High Park Nature Centre at:

We will confirm via email or phone as soon as your form and payment arrive in the mail.

Cancellation Policy

 

Plans can change quickly.  For a refund, please email or call in your request at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program.  An administration fee of 10% will be charged for early cancellations. 

 

For requests received less than 10 business days prior to the start of program, an administration fee of 50% of the fee will apply.  A full refund will be issued if a program is cancelled by the Nature Centre.

Weather Policies

Programs will proceed rain, snow or shine. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather as we will be outdoors for most of the activities. Indoor programs will be run in the case of severe inclement weather such as heavy rain, thunderstorms, snowstorms or high winds over 35 km per hour. We also advise wearing long pants, socks and long sleeved tops to protect against poison ivy. If you have any questions please call our office at 416-392-1748 ext. 6.

Knee-High Naturalists Tuesday Club Program

Strap on a pair of snowshoes and follow a flock of chickadees with a handful of   sunflower seeds! Become a track detective and discover tales in the snow. Catch snowflakes, celebrate winter, make nature crafts and meet new friends!

Younger siblings are welcome*. Strollers are not easy to use on the trails, so please bring an alternative.

 

Please be sure to specify which session (morning or afternoon) you would like to enroll in.

 

Ages: 3-5 years with a parent or guardian

Cost: $50.00 / child

 

MORNING SESSION (FULL)

Dates: January 13, 27, February 10, 24, March 10, 24, 2009.

Time: 9:30 - 11am

 

AFTERNOON SESSION  (FULL)

Dates: January 13, 27, February 10, 24, March 10, 24, 2009.

Time: 1:30 - 3pm

 

Saturday Morning Naturalist Club for Kids

Ages: 6-8 years

Dates: January 17, 31, February 14, 28, March 14, 28, 2009.

Time: 9:30am - 12:00pm

Cost: $60.00 / child (covers cost of all 6 sessions)

 

Have you ever wondered why chickadees sing their own name or how many different kinds of snowflakes there are? Join the “High Park Saturday Morning Naturalist Club for Kids” and learn the answers to these questions and many more. Play ecological games, make nature crafts to take home and meet lots of new friends!

 

Ramblers Hiking Club for Kids

Ages: 8-10 years

Dates: January 10, 24 February 7, 21, March 7, 21, 2009.

Time: 9:30am - 12:00pm

Cost: $60.00 / child (covers cost of all 6 sessions)

 

Children will determine their own hiking route and natural history theme each week!  Please remember your imagination, a light backpack, portable snack and water bottle!

 

Earth Hour Lantern Making Workshop and Walk

Dates: Saturday, March 28, 2009

Time: 6:30 - 9pm

Ages: The whole family

Cost: PWYC - by donation

 

On March 28, 2009, cities around the world will turn off their lights for Earth Hour, an event to raise awareness about climate change. 

Join the Nature Centre’s interpretive staff to observe Earth Hour on a lantern-lit night hike through High Park. Craft a beautiful glass jar lantern and learn simple things you can do everyday to help combat climate change.

Pre-registration is required.

 

March Break Camp 2009 (FULL)

Ages: 6-10 yrs.

Dates: Monday to Friday, March 16 to March 20, 2009

Time: 9am to noon at Colborne Lodge, 12:45 to 3:45pm at the Nature Centre

Cost: $15.95 + GST per child per half day workshop, $33.00 + GST per full day.

Reduced rates if booking at both sites for multiple days.

 

Children participate in fun and exciting activities based on the history and environment of High Park. Parents can sign up their children for any or all half day sessions. Pre-registration is required. 

**Registration opens for March Break Camp on January 5, 2009, please call Colborne Lodge at 416-392-6916 to register on or after January 5th.
