2008 Summer Camp Programs

 

 

Location

Programs take place at the High Park Nature Centre, located on the eastern perimeter of the park at 430 Parkside Drive (at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Indian Valley Crescent).

Registration

Registration opens for summer 2008 programs on February 25, 2008.  Pre-registration is required for all programs.  Registration can not be confirmed until payment has been received.

Knee-High Naturalists:

Please pay by cash or cheque.  We will confirm in person or via email as soon as your registration is complete.

 

Option #1

Print off and fill out the appropriate registration form and drop off your form and payment to the High Park Nature Centre at 430 Parkside Drive (one set of lights south of Keele and Bloor at the intersection of Parkside Drive and Indian Valley Cres.)  Staff are available to help you from 8:30 am until 4pm – please knock first in case we are running a program.

 

Option #2

If the Centre is closed, you can drop your form and payment off any day of the week, at any time in our locked mailbox on the southeast corner of the building (at the top of the interlocking brick pathway).  Mail is picked up daily, including Saturday and Sunday.

 

Option #3

Print off and fill out the appropriate registration form and mail your form and payment to the High Park Nature Centre at:

Cancellation Policy (new for 2008)

 

Summer plans can change quickly.  For a refund, please email or call in your request at least 10 business days prior to the start of camp.  An administration fee of 10% will be charged for early cancellations. 

 

For requests received less than 10 business days prior to the start of camp, an administration fee of 50% of the camp fee will apply.  A full refund will be issued if a program is cancelled by the Nature Centre.

Weather Policies

Programs will proceed rain or shine. Please be sure to dress your child appropriately for the weather as we will be outdoors for most of the activities. Indoor programs will be run in the case of severe inclement weather such as heavy rain, thunderstorms, heat alerts, smog days or high winds over 35 km per hour. We also advise wearing close-toed shoes, socks and long sleeved pants to protect against poison ivy. If you have any questions please call our office at 416-392-1748 ext. 6.

Knee-High Naturalists Parent and Child Summer Camp

Ages: 3-5 years (accompanied by a parent, guardian or caregiver)

Time: 9:30 – 11:30am

Fee: $45.00 per session

 

Session A: July 14-18 (FULL)

Session B: July 28 – August 1 (FULL)

Session C: August 18 – 22 (FULL)

 

Explorers big and small will have fun hiking the trails of High Park, searching for animal homes, hunting for bugs, learning about wildflowers, singing nature songs, watching birds and creating nature crafts to take home. 

Younger siblings are welcome.  Strollers are difficult to use on the trails, so please bring an alternative.

Interested in booking 2 weeks at camp?  Choose either Session A and Session B or Session B and Session C to avoid repetition.

 

Nature Nuts Summer Camp

Ages: 6-10 years

Time: 9am – 4pm

Fee: $165.00 per session

 

Session A: July 7 – 11 (FULL)

Session B: July 21-25 (FULL)

Session C: August 11-15 (FULL)

 

Are you nuts about nature?  The High Park Nature Centre is the place for you! 

Discover the amazing plants, animals and insects of High Park’s forest, savannah and wetland habitats.  “Nature Nuts” in training will develop their naturalist skills while exploring the nature trails in High Park.  Campers will also play environmental games, make nature crafts to take home, meet lots of new friends, swim at the pool and go on scavenger hunts.

A different theme is planned for each day of the week, with topics including: Birds, Fish and Pond Life, Wildflowers and Trees, Insects, High Park Habitats, Mammals.

NEW! Young Naturalists Summer Club

Ages: 8-12 years

Time: 9am – 4 pm

 

Session A: July 2 – 4, 2008 (FULL)

Fee for Session A: $100

 

Session B: August 5 – 8, 2008

Fee for Session B: $135

 

The Nature Centre’s Young Naturalists Summer Club is for kids who are seriously serious about nature!  Studying a new natural history theme each day, campers will have fun learning how to hone their observation, identification, and environmental stewardship skills. Club members will be mentored by Nature Centre staff and “guest” local naturalists as they come into their own as naturalists.
