Family Nature Walks - Summer 2006 Schedule July 4, 2006: Bird Finders Challenge (1-3PM) Participate in our 1st annual “Bird Finders Challenge”! Learn the art of telling birds apart by song, appearance and habitat and then take part in our challenge. Families will have one week to observe and identify as many birds as they can in High Park and the surrounding area. July 11, 2006: Moth Night (8:15PM) Discover the "butterflies of the night" at the annual High Park Moth Night. Members of the Toronto Entomologists Association will set up special lights and show to identify moths. Remember to bring your bug box and a flashlight! Meet at the benches across the road from the south side of the Grenadier Cafe in High Park at 8:15pm for this walk. July 18, 2006: Eyes to the Skies (1-3PM) Search for the winged “jewels” of the skies in High Park! Learn how to identify butterflies and dragonflies and where to look for them. Bring binoculars from home or borrow a pair from the Nature Centre. July 18, 2006: Bat Night (8:15PM) Learn about the bats of High Park, how they communicate, what they eat and where they live! Meet at the benches across the road from the couth side of the Grenadier Cafe in High Park at 8:15pm for this walk. July 25, 2006: Wild Neighbours Quest (1-3PM) Have you ever knocked on the door of a chipmunk’s home? Learn about the animals that share High Park with us and go out in search of animal signs, tracks and homes. August 1, 2006: Enchanted High Park (1-3PM) Do you believe in fairies? Drift off to Fairyland as you learn about fairy lore and search the trails of High Park for fairy food. Build your own fairy house and then go on a tour of “Fairy Village”! August 8, 2006: Wildflower Wander (1-3PM) Go on a wander to discover the wonders of wildflowers! Learn about native and invasive plants in High Park, taste edible plants and find out how to identify plants. August 22, 2006: Tree Detectives (1-3PM) Become a tree detective and discover how to tell who’s who in the forest. Celebrate High Park’s tallest residents by learning how to identify trees by their bark, fruit and leaves. Meet at: The High Park Nature Centre (Parkside Drive & Indian Valley Cres.) unless otherwise noted (e.g. Moth and Bat Night) Ages: all ages are welcome—bring the whole family!* Cost: $2.00 per person * Strollers are difficult to use on the trails. Please bring an alternative. |
